Why Is CT A Hotbed Of Letterbxes?

From: letterboxer2002 (letterboxer2002@yahoo.com) | Date: 2003-11-05 19:05:18 UTC
Hey eveyone-

Someone asked me today ... "Why is CT such a hotbed for letterboxes?"
I thought I could answer just about anything regarding letterboxing.
But this question stumps me. Can anyone help with an answer?

Thanx- Alan (Letterboxer2002)

Because we're SPECIAL (or have such long winters we have too much time on our
hands), CREATIVE, PUZZLE LOVERS, and ADVENTEROUS!

Or just plain crazy.

Letterboxing in CT is easier than out west. Less creepy crawlies in
the hidey holes, & no NPS to deal with.

This is a type of hobby that depends on having a critical mass of
participants to make it take off. The more letterboxers there are,
and the more boxes that are planted in an area, the more interesting
it is for new boxers that try it out. Thus they will stay with the
hobby, plant more boxes etc. And the process repeats itself.

The EMS store in the Crystal Mall in Waterford got the process
started, offering a clue exchange service for their customers. This
got many boxes planted in Connecticut and Rhode Island. The
critical mass was reached and it has grown from there.

Other states or areas will have to wait until a local newspaper
article or other promotion gets the process rolling in the area.
Then it will depend if a critical mass is reached.

My humble opinion on this is that Conn has a lot of
people that love the outdoors. We have miles of
beautiful places that most people have never seen.
There are hundreds of miles of open spaces just
outside big cites. Now this is only my opinion. Now
please let me go so I can plant some more boxes in
Mansfield Conn. THE LETTERBOX CAPITAL OF THE WORLD
